Beechwood

(FAGUS SYLVATICUS)

Beech timber commonly also known under its Latin name Fagus sylvatica is the one most widely spread in the Romanian Carpathian Mountains, belonging to the only unpolluted forest area in Europe.

Types of Beechwood:

1. Steamed square edge beechwood – KD

2. Planed S4S square edge beechwood

3. Unsteamed square edge beechwood – KD

4. Steamed unedged beechwood – KD

5. Steamed and Unsteamed Unedged Beechwood AD

NLA Steamed square edged beechwood

1. Steamed square edge beechwood – KD 10-12%MC

Thickness: 25 – 32 – 38 – 50 – 60 mm

Widths: 100 mm and wider

Lengths:

  • super short: 400 till 900 mm;
  • short: 1000 till 2000 mm;
  • long: 2100 mm and longer.

Quality: Quality as per quality description AA – AB – A – B – BC – C grades. AB grades 1 face clear more than 90% and less than 10% small defect as sound knots on surface allowed and red heart discoloration allowed.

Extra requirement for AB grades:

  • thickness: 50 mm;
  • widths: 120 mm and wider;
  • lengths:2400 mm and longer.

2. Planed S4S Square Edge Beechwood

Dimensions and quality to be agreed with the client.

3. Unsteamed square edge beechwood – KD 10-12%MC

Thickness: 26 – 32 – 38 – 50 mm

Widths: 100 mm and wider

Lengths:

  • Short: 1000 till 2000 mm
  • Long: 2100 mm and longer

Quality: A grades more than 90% 4 sides clear and less than 10% 1 to 3 sides clear.

  • NOR RED HEART DISCOLORATION ALLOWED
  • NOT STICK MARK ALLOWED
  • NOT STAIN ALLOWED

Origin: Slovenia-Croatia

4. Steamed unedged beechwood – KD 10-12%MC

Thickness: 22 – 26 – 32 – 38 – 45 – 50 – 55 mm

Widths: 120 mm and wider

Lengths: 2000 mm and longer

Quality:

  • AA grades 2 face clear free of knots and red heart discoloration
  • AB grades 1 face clear and sound knot 1 to 2 on face allowed and red heart discoloration on reverse side partially till 35% of surface
  • BC grades 2 defects per length meter and red heart discoloration on both side allowed

5. Steamed and Unsteamed Unedged Beechwood AD

Thickness: 22 – 26 – 32 – 38 – 40 – 43 – 45 – 50 – 60 – 70 – 80 mm

Widths: 120 mm and wider

Lengths: 2000 mm and longer

Quality: AB – CD grades, as follows

  • AB include A grades as 2 face clear and B as 1 face clear and red heart not defect;
  • CD include C 1 or 2 defect per 1 meter length and D center of logs cut or included on boards;
  • Fresh cut boards on space sticks protected by ASP (anti stain protection).
